Genesis Personal Development Center, also known as Genesis House, is where nightmares end and dreams begin. We are a private, non-profit 501(c)3 home and learning center for survivors of domestic violence in Polk and Butler Counties in rural Nebraska. That’s an important distinction: we are a learning center, not an emergency shelter
We offer education, self-help programs, and friendship during a time of transition. Participants engage in program requirements that enable them to refine life skills and to maintain employment. Clients of Genesis House become enabled, empowered and independent – leaving with ability not only to survive, but also to thrive as productive members of the community.
Clients who sign an agreement to participate in long-term transition and mentoring begin with a survival plan to set goals for the steps that will lead to freedom from being abused. We work closely with law enforcement and other assistance agencies to promote a better understanding about domestic violence issues, and the obstacles faced by our clients.
Remember, we are not a crisis shelter. People who are facing imminent danger are placed in motels or alternation locations to allow time for us to establish a safety plan, intake and assessment of individual needs.
