Promoting safety, respect, and the prevention of violence.

Who We Are

Genesis Personal Development Center, Inc. “Genesis House” is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit learning center for survivors of domestic violence with violence prevention programming for the public.

where nightmares end

We are a learning center for survivors of domestic violence and we provide prevention programming for Polk and Butler counties in rural Nebraska. We are not an emergency or crisis shelter. We are unable to offer residential services at this time.

and dreams begin

We offer education, self-help programs, and friendship during a time of transition. Participants engage in program requirements that enable them to refine life skills and to maintain employment. Clients of Genesis House become enabled, empowered and independent – leaving with ability not only to survive, but also to thrive as productive members of the community.

Clients who sign an agreement to participate in long-term transition and mentoring begin with a survival plan to set goals for the steps that will lead to 'victory over violence'. We work closely with law enforcement and other assistance agencies to promote a better understanding about domestic violence issues, and the obstacles faced by our clients.

Remember, we are not a crisis shelter. Clients do not sleep or live at Genesis House. People who are facing imminent danger are placed in alternation locations to allow time for us to establish a safety plan, intake, and assessment of individual needs.
